This great news. You don’t have to produce oil to have refinery. You can buy cheap crude and turn into valuable products like gasoline and get fuels.

somalia we buy finished products for very expensive and alot of time it’s not even good quality with high sulfur which ruins equipment and is bad for environment

12 billion for one refinery?
Yeah that number is bogus. SATORP which is a joint venture between Aramco and Total energy and one of the largest refining and petrochemical platforms in the world cost was around that number. Ajyal is subsidiary of Al Dossary contracting group and they dont have that kinda money tho however thats good progress :nvjpqts:

300k barreles per day is big facility. The cost is 86.7k per barrel of capacity. Seems in line based on quora answer. Plus everything more expensive in horn because not very much in house capability which leads to everything coming from abroad material and workers. Maybe it’s exaggerated but it’s within realm of possible to me

Give Dhul-Suwayqatayn not an inch of the Sea!
It could be a state of the art modern refinery that is a cut above the traditional ones, hence the hefty price tag. I believe the 200 thousand barrels a day refinery that was planned for Mogadishu with the help of Romania was going to cost upwards of $500 million in 1990s dollars, which is like $1 billion today but then we chimped out.

Congrats to Djibouti.

they have no oil, who’s oil will they be handling?
They will buy crude. Crude oil is cheap especially the dirty heavy kind. The refinery breaks up the oil. This is where money making products made like gasoline , jet fuel, natural gas etc… even comes from crude which can be used for roads. Refining very profitable because oil straight from ground needs a lot of work to meet specs for equipment.

Guessing crude will come through ship and they will sell finished products to Ethiopia . Maybe one day will be pipes from Sudan

that was helpful👍

somalia needs a refinery, it would quicken the construction of roads. It would also put our own homegrown or East African Somali gas companies on centre stage

how will Djibouti having this affect our deal with the Turks? If at all

If the Turks do off shore oil drilling we can sell them crude oil. Then they can process it for us and give us fuels we need would be win win.

I don’t see Turkey sinking that kind of money into somalia though

Why will saudi arabia 😂greedy bastard invest tiny small country with no oil next to them 12 billion dollars oil refinery 🤣 this story is to good to be true 🤡 the world is moving from fossil fuel to electric.. 50 years from now more electric car will be on the road than fuel or diesel car 😃it will have make sense if they say they invest 12 billion dollar on solar panel because Djibouti climate is very hot…

Minneapolis doesn’t produce oil either but they have giant refinery in rosemount. They get crude oil from Canada tar sands . Oil not going anywhere oil makes plastic , asphalt for roads, medicine, gas , fertilizer

u right 21 billion a lot and Saudi greedy maybe won’t happen but East Africa needs refinery there is big demand for fuel. Right now Somalia gets a lot of low quality fuel and diesel
