Somali fertility rates dropping FAST

In Finland the somali fertility rate fell faster than among native finns.

Similar trend in Norway, massive decrease within a year

Majority of somalis in the west (including newer fobs) will most likely have 2 kids on average, maybe even less in more ’liberal’ countries like scandinavian ones..

Even in Sweden they’re noticing a similar trend, second-generation immigrants who are somali are putting off marriage until they have a degree and a stable job, for many this will not be a reality until they’re atleast in their mid/late 20s.

Finally. Somalis don't suite having so many children. You have to be financially stable and look after and follow up all your children so not a single one go loose which Somali parents failed in doing.

Don't have kids if your gonna struggle to provide for them. Make sure the ones you have are succeeding in life before popping out next batch

This a normal trend not specific to somalis, of course it will drop.
Take this as good or bad news,
Also its a bit unfair to make the comparison with swedes, their TFR is already at replacement level.
Also somalis were just 1st generation in the 2010s and 2000s, now the people born there are more integrated and realize they cant have too many children, maybe economic reasons, cultural.

Wow. If Somalis back home started to prioritise education, I wonder if they would also start having less and less kids or get married later into their adult life

This is definitely calculated incorrectly and as a person who lives here it doesn’t match the reality.

For comparison, somali TFR in Usa was 4,32 based on the 2020 census (can’t find the source quickly) You are meant to tell me there is that much of a different between the 2 populations.

These scandi countries are calculating this extremely differently or my guess, correctly but selectively.

TFR factors in the age range 15-49. 2/3 of the population here are under 20 years of age(source in finnish).

The 15-25 dwarves massively the rest of the age range. You can calculate fully or use age specific calculation which I think the finns and the rest of nordic countries are not doing. This gives us the small tfr of somalis.

It’s good and bad, bad in a sense our population is already so small if we have even less kids we will even be more of a minority then we already are how can we compete with Nigerians and Kenyans. On average we should have 4 kids each. 2 replace each person that’s not a crazy number but ensures there’s at least replacement and one extra

This is about diaspora fertility rates. Somalia’s fertility rate is the second highest in earth….

We need to ensure the diaspora population remains strong to establish ourselves as a community that cannot be overlooked. As a minority, there is a risk of becoming invisible or assimilated into more dominant cultures. The issue isn’t having too many children, but rather addressing social demographics.

We must focus on better educating our children, guiding them into skilled professions, and encouraging them to move into better neighborhoods. This will help break the cycle of raising future generations in disadvantaged areas. Strength in numbers does have its advantages.
