Benefits? Well it gives a good sound reason to unite , it tells us who belongs to our group and who shares the group interests.

So yes I would like to see all Soomaalis unite one day and have a ideological,cultural,religious and political conformity. It means we can better serve our own Somali development and protect our interests. So yes it would do a lot to have a foothold of collectivity and we can better protect our territories,resources & livelyhood from outsiders(ajanabis).

Unity is not a given!! It's not something just served free on a platter just like that, it's something we have to work towards with full complete understanding and love of self. It's a political necessity that's what it is.

Have somalis ever been united?
If not why do think is the issues for not uniting?

I hope these are genuine questions.

1) . When and if Somalis did unite it were under political necassities. So its not an issue if we were previously united or not but is there a good reason to be? and is it politically necassarry? The answer is YES!

2) Why its been an issue today to unite Somalis is first & foremost due to the entire agenda of forcing nation-state central governments on peoples and regions where that is not suitable. Somalia has a particular social structure that necessitates decentralization.

The underlying problem has to do with the mistrust an authoritarian central govt fostered on the somali people. It was mainly the unequal distribution of resources and unequal political participation and the injustice of a communist regime that caused the war not because Clan A hates Clan B.

Reinforcing this mistrust against a centralized state is newly common practice to organize a political party somewhere and claim presidency over a given region.

Unity is a political necessity and somalis have particular social structure that necessitates decentralization as well. So if Somalis were to unite it will be under a decentralized unitary state.

Due to chronic foreign meddling and foreign political actors it seems harder to achieve and have authentic reconciliation between clans.

But beyond the corrupt elite trying to hold us back. The Somali citizen populous sentiments & wishes are obvious when you look at this study:

Hence why dencentralized unitary state is the best choice of governance. Like i said the key to unity is something to work towards with complete understanding and love of self.

Under the kacaan there was no unity its was a clan based dictatorship which led to the civilwar, During Adal people united under religion not ethnicity with parts of somali lands not part of it. which only leaves 1960-69 as the only time some sort of real unity was displayed.

Have there never been a time somalis were united under one rule/kingdom/sultanate etc?

If somalis are descendants of Kush, ancient Punt, Azania and those great kingdoms surely they must have left traces of nationalism/unity and knowledge and not nomadic people with no sense of unity? I mean they could have managed to have to ruled to this day since no huge invasion took over the whole land with exception of the colonial powers who left more traces then all those civilizations combined.

How did somalis go from ancient empire builders to nomads who cant rule towns let alone nations?
