Why are you guys surprised when the beauty standard in Somalia now is lighter skin. I see Somali women praising light skin somali men on tiktok comments. Most Somali artists are very pale too. You can’t be darker skinned and make it big in east africa
Yeah, and he looks like he relaxed his hair too. I doubt she is that pretty in her normal skin and appearance. The women really know how to take it to the next level. His woman appears to have over done makeup stuff and not so much skin lightening, I think she's using a lot of makeup to give that lighter skin tone look.
Onyx has a good point. In Africa and India the lighter skin is more respected and a norm. That is their cultural norm there. But here in the USA or developed countries you're viewed as "Running away from your colour". Even in Kenya the Kenyans are against skin lightening while the Somalis want it. Kenyan beauty places will never sell you or do skin whitenning stuff. China also favours white people and babies and kisses asses of white American and British men.
My mom previously hooked me up with Somali girl in Africa that made me nearly vomit though, she messed up her skin and had discoloration and stuff. I was like "no thanks" and kept moving lol. If you're gonna do it at least do it safely, in africa they often do it unsafe and unnatural and it comes out gross. Some are just straight born naturally light skinned.

Your mom connecting you with lighter women is a clear example of that. In Somalia even women bleach to get a higher chance at marriage. More men will be interested in them. Ofc I’m against skin bleaching, but watching videos helped me understand why they do it. There is even a saying in Somalia that only darker skin and night time is dumb. Basically insinuating dark skin is bad. It upsets me. I even see diaspora somali men being influenced by this saying they want to marry a lighter skinned somali women back home. They never go for women their own colour or darker.

Ayan who is mentally ill here in a nearby American city used to be my friend and woman was always about is cadees and getting a white man. Somehow she managed to safely make herself more lighter skinned. She has a lot of money and she's a crazed real estate person that was fired from Hertz where we worked together. Her friends are also about finding white men. It all hints to the fact she and her friends hate the fact they were born black.
Some in Africa like that one my mom introduced got permanent darker spots and Melasma permanent skin discoloration because they harmed the layer below the skin that doesn't recover if damaged. They scrub real hard and wanna scrub the black off
