I’m dir gurgura from my father, my abtirsi is Somali.

I’m just sharing that gurgura in eastern dhir dhaba are very much Oromo. Though mine aren’t, they’re just bilingual.

Gurgura are very much Somali they live in Sanaag Ceerigaabo and Badhan in particular.

They keep track of the abtirsi. Arabs do the same. Hadraami Yemeni communities in Indonesia, Kenya etc still know their roots even though their forefathers left Arabia more than 600 years ago

coming into zeila as descendants of arabs we have the same practice. Where we got it from remains in the roots of the Somali people. Issa do the same to gurgura, only marrying the women. It’s how this matter is of no worry, we never have Oromo fathers.

We share settlements with the Madaxweyne Dir. Just like you guys we have some tribes deep in Oromia who forgot how to speak Somali but the good thing is that they do know they are Somali. Heck you have tribes amongst us that only speak Arabic

Thing is North Africa was invaded and conquered by the Arabs. So was Sudan. The horn of Africa wasn't. I'm just wondering why they haven't adopted the dominant languages like Amharic or Oromo if they dropped Somali. Arabic as a mother tongue in Ethiopia is so out of place. If you mean those hawiye speak it as a second language/lingua franca with other ethnicities instead of Amharic it makes sense

Some of the most important subclans of the Gadabursi are matrinileally Gurgura. The Bah Gurgura subclan includes the Reer Nuur and the Adan Yoonis. The Bah Sanayo subclan are also materially Gurgura.
