My ancestors lived in northern Bari. They spoke Somali and Arabic and knew only to write in the Arabic script. They dressed like the Arabs and were culturally tied to them, especially southern Yemenis. In that time, their main trading partners were also Arabs and they were closer to them in many regards than their own kin in the south. Maybe in 2022 it is different, but historically some Somalis have very close ties to Arabs.

I haven't really seen any evidence of Gulf States building essential infrastructure in African Countries to anywhere near the same scale as China.

Even in the case of Sudan, the Gulf States usually just provide a portion of the financing (along with China) while Chinese, German and French firms are directly involved throughout the entire process of major infrastructure projects.

Lahmeyer International (German), Alstom (French) and ABB (Swiss) were the firms that provided technical expertise and equipment for the Merowe dam project.

Lahmeyer International was the engineering firm in charge of planning and supervising the Merowe Dam project.

Kuwait funded 2 airports in Garowe and Hargeisa they've also funded a university in Badhan and schools all over Somalia
UAE built Berbera port and a corridor connecting it to Ethiopia


Saudi doesn't do infrastructure but it has funded local NGOs, ironically their NGOs reached more people directly unlike Western aid where it hangs in Nairobi/Xalane.
