How will Somaliland rejoining Somalia help you against the political mess there? You need us to save you?

I obviously don't believe Somaliland is a separate country, what I am interested in are the effects of telling a large number of people things that are not true. It seems that Somaliland has put itself in a bind. It cannot retreat from secession without popular revolt, but it has to come to terms with remaining a part of Somalia at the same time. How do you rewire the brains of hundreds of thousands that you yourself have been programming to believe that they are a separate country?

"Alright now, you know what I have been telling you about being an independent state and how we suffered a genocide at the hands of these people, forget all about it. We actually share a country with these wanlaweyns!" Imagine some politician saying this in 2041, 50 years after "independence" and just 24 years from now. Every year Somaliland refuses to negotiate on how it stays in the union is a year closer to such a scenario. What a terrible waste of precious time.

@jugjugwacwac Somaliland will be recognized soon. I dont even know why you're fighting for a Somalia that no longer exists. The Isaaq are on the verge of creating a nation for themselves and here you are completely against it. Either you're fooling us all or you're one deluded fucktard.

I am not Isaaq and I don't want to be part of their project called Somaliland, but I have to be honest here. Isaaq created a reality that will soon be recognized because they have a solid case once they convince the world that Dhulbahante and Warsangeli are onboard. The best way to do that is to create politicians, trusted by Dhulos and Warsangeli who will in return, join Somaliland with the blessings of the clan elders.

A united Somali Army would be far superior than mini clan armies. The battalions/units of the SL army can be integrated into a united Somali Army & become the command in protecting that region of Somalia.

That's what's i used to think too until I did a lot of research. Bro the SNM wasn't started in 1981 and Hargeisa was bombed to the ground in 1988. We formed a rebel group then Siyaad and the Kacaan naturally started persecuting us, not the other way around. Ask any of ur elders to give u the exact reason that forced our hand and made us create a rebel group in 1981? They'll give u ambiguous and general statements about oppression, but never anything very specific and concrete. Only specific and historically documented reason I came across was after the Ogaden war of 77 we had an issue with the Ogaden refugees who came to the north being favoured by the kacaan for some things. Some of them even began killing Isaaq nomads in the Isaaq haud region. The Isaaq elders informed Siyaad Barre about this but nothing much was done to solve the problem. But do u honestly think that was good enough of a reason to destroy an entire government and split the country into two and be in the horrible situation we're now? I don't think so.

I don't understand this line of thinking. Why would people not form rebel groups under a dictatorship? Were they just supposed to lay down and take oppression with a smile? Even if rebel groups were never formed Somalia would've ended up in the same situation because it was a dictatorship resulting from a bloodless take over. There was barely any freedom. People from the shortlived previous government were arrested, wadaado were executed, people were essentially living in fear. There was a point in time where you couldn't even own a telephone in your own home. Afweyne created a state in which corruption and loyalty was rewarded which is why Somalis scattered all over the west still partake in corrupt behaviors. The loyalties were based on clan allegiances and he persecuted certain clans because they spoke out against him or he had some kind of cuqdad against them. These are facts walaal. Things were not good and the country was bound to collapse after the Soviets pulled out and the short lived US alliance ended.

Should Puntland seek secession?

That is not on me to say, if the citizens of Puntland want independence they should seek it. I don't live there nor do I plan to live there and everybody has the freedom to choose what they want to do. I just don't appreciate this false nostalgia like Somalia wasn't surviving by hook and crook during the dictatorship, many people suffered and there was distrust and contempt which ultimately caused the collapse.

After 26 years some people still believe Somaliland will get recognized? I think the International Community have learned their
lesson from the South Sudan fiasco. They will avoid creating another African craphole.

No I wasn't, but if you're too emotional don't participate in political topics. If prosecution is a ground to secede then surely there's no clan more severely prosecuted than Majeerteens. If prosecution is a reason to break away, lots of Somali clans would break away.

Puntland is a dawlad not maamul, carabkaaga bar as Faroole once said.

I didn't mention secession, the post I quoted did and he was insinuating things are worse and I mentioned that life wasn't, infact, so great under Somalia's dictatorship. It was bound to collapse and it did so severely. I don't care for secession because I was born in the West and growing up I heard horror stories about what my family was going through but I'm not going to say other people who grew up there shouldn't be able to say they want to secede. That is on them.

I am Majerteen by the way.
