'Ppl could be corrupted', is an excuse you could use at all times including the future. A referendum with international observers is still the very best way to settle the issue. The Somalia gov has had ample oppotunity to corrupt SLs quest for independence by bribing ppl to abandon it, they still have not had much success. In any case this is not a legitmate way to conduct themselves anyway, I wouldn't consider it an 'opportunity'.
Its the name of the game and also "bloodless" and Somalia have had time but its dealing with more pressuring issues. Thats why I think the talks between Somali gov and separatists should be put on hold for now until full focus can be used to solve this issue.

A referendum is still better than the undetermined future discussions you are suggesting. It's not difficult and does not require an immense amount of effort on the part of Somalia gov. It would also show the will of the people and not 12 men in a room. The issue for the Somalia gov is the almost inevitable outcome, and that is why the Somalia gov is not taking the common sense approach.

If they thought they could win they would have done it already. An internationally observed referendum is without a doubt the best possible scenario. It was last week, it would be today and tomorrow.

A referendum can be held. But at this point of time its not really something that somali gov should look into. As I said there is more pressuring issues to deal with. I do believe somali gov can have desired outcome of a referendum in the future if it chooses to go down that path.

This would be accepting that SL "gov" is legitimate ruler and acknowledging their cause. For now there is no reason to even hold a referendum despite outcome. When the south is on its feet this discussion should be held but Somalias borders are not up for debate unless we are talking about expansion.

Plus SNM and Silanyo are traitors and have to go to court for their crimes against the civilian.

Damn homie it's been 25 years already. When will there ever a good time for reconciliation?

If the Somalia government was intelligent it solve this issue first so that they can have a partner in Somaliland that can assist them with their security issues. You would have no need to go to the Ethiopians and Kenyans for help against terrorism and clan warfare. It can be fixed by Somalis themselves.
