It's clear that Assad has become the preferred option for the West in recent years. The Syrian war had mostly died down, and with it, the number of refugees fleeing to Western countries had dropped significantly.

But now, with this new conflict, we’re likely to see a fresh wave of people seeking asylum in the West. On top of that, there’s the very real concern that former extremist rebels could slip through as asylum seekers, posing serious risks to national security.

This new offensive has flipped the situation on its head, and most governments, given how the situation is unfolding, would much prefer the previous status quo before the offensive.

I'm not shocked at all, but are you failing to understand the hypocrisy here? Imagine claiming all year to support these people, yet using their suffering to trigger reactions on Twitter.
