some oromo told me the deputies are Amhara

Correct, they appear to still have high positions in the military establishment, but all of them bow down to Abiy and his orders.

It seems like this whole Amhara 'movement' is anti-Oromo rather than anything else. And their objective is to limit Oromo influence as much as possible.

do somalis have any high military rank?

To my knowledge, there are not any of high ranks.

Somalis were only recently 'welcomed' into the Addis establishment when Abiy took over and got some top ministerial and gov't job, but that's as far as Somalis come to actual power in the country.

Finance minister, Ahmed Shide.
Prosperity party vice-president, Adem Farah (and speaker of the House of Federation until 2021).
Minister of women/children/youth, Filsan Abdi (but she resigned due to the Tigray war according to her).

Nothing will come of this. There'll be a fanfare and a tantrum thrown here and there but ultimately all the regional militias will be integrated into the ENDF (which too me seems a very common-sensical thing to do). Ethiopia will never reach the activation energy required for balkanisation. Sure, it'll get close but things always end up calming down.

I can honestly see a big power play coming from Isaias Afwerki. Assuming he stays alive, he will be key to relative peace in the Horn

Nope, Amharas will not bow down without a fight. In what sense it happens, we will have to see

Isais is on to something... I heard that Eritrean intelligence have been seen in Addis, not only during the Tigray war but also recently, dealing with the Ethiopian gov't and military in some capacity.

Due to the enormous Eritrean contribution in the war, we can expect them to have a significant say in how Ethiopia evolves going forward.

While it's great that Somalis are getting to position of power, it would only be beneficial if they could make any change for us, either for our region or overall for Somalis in the country. These people seem to only be under Abiy's watch and to execute his vision. That's about it.

Remember during the Tigray war, when Filsan Abdi spoke up on how the gov't should do more to protect women and children. But she was sacked for her words, or some claim that she willingly left her ministerial job. But I'm sure.

I don't think we'll ever get to the 'level' of Somalis in Kenya, where there can exist independent Somali politicians and those of high powers, unfortunately. :kanyeshrug:
