If the counter offer is allowing a naval base then that will never be worth it. They can get a commercial port but nothing else.

HSM should continue to lobby other groups to petition against the MoU. That is a more worthwhile strategy than allowing Ethiopians to control your sea.

Recognition of Somaliland can set off a chain reaction that Somalia can't control.

It's not a simple as you are suggesting.

HSM will offer everything, base, port, maybe multiple ports, road corridor, the whole lot before this is finished. Turkey will act as the guarantor on Somalia's offer.

Maybe, mabye not but I think HSM negotiating means he recognizes the risk involved. Which means he recognizes the weakness in his position, rather than him being corrupt and in on the deal which is very unlikely.
