Nah there has never been any acknowledgement by the Somali state, except sometimes they spoke out both sides of their mouth like Farmaajo. No real recognition of these offences, also this kind of politics is rife in the south, many orphans of the regime are still around and plotting on power. Figures from that regime are still given full state honours etc.

Anyway for Somaliland even the unionists would accept nothing but a north south divide of power in recognition of the fact SL gave up it's sovereignty to join in a union. federalism is a scheme you devised among yourselves and we have a better opportunity seeking to ressurect the independence borders. So anyway no one in Somaliland is demanding anything of you we go our own way if you want to make a serious offer we will entertain it.

I'm not defending the idea of seccession merely rationalising it's existence. I'm telling you why this happened, not declaring whether or not it's better for somalis as a whole in some idealist world where we don't have the mafia as a government.

Somaliland then could have declared itself the government of Somalia and dampen the issue in south. Perfect time. Secondly Somaliland does not the geography to sustain itself. 34 years since declaring yourself independent. Tell me the gdp per capita, gdp, HDI of Somaliland, is it food secure? Whats the poverty rate? Whats the employment rate? Whats the literacy rate. They have done nothing for themselves and the leaders there wanna sell to the people that in order for everything to be well, they need recognition. Well look at Kosovo, look at Catalonia, look at Taiwan.
