Damn that letter perfectly describes it all. When was it written?

In the thread he pointed out that the Bedouins he was referring to was Somalis and it was Somalis in the area that would have seasonal secondary homes in Harar.

This explanation makes soo much sense to me.

But this actually goes to show how farce this nomad label really is, like i said in another thread. It doesn't accurately capture the complexity.
On old maps, you will see various Somali clans named around the city, practising agropastoralism, as the Oromo pushed into the surrounding lands you see these groups go back to areas close to their ancestral land, for example, the Gadabuursi went back to Harawo due to the insecurity outside the walls, you still can't trust Oromos, had a relative who lived amongst them who got murdered 2 years ago, he was married to Oromo, he got killed just for being Somali and owning land.

The damage these europsans did to us really is mind boggling when you think about it. They also if i remember correctly dismantled a bunch of stuff to build the djbouti railway right?
The europeans undeniably lead to the downturn of some Somali cities by interrupting trade routes but they also re-oriented movement of people/goods to other Somali cities like Mogadishu/beledweyne/Jowhar/ Kismayo/ Djibouti. Sure, for their own benefit but they are a heavy influence in the relative success of these urban centres.

The French putting zaylac out of commission with the Djibouti-Dir Dhaba railway, Italians building roadways and rail in Ethiopia and Somalia disrupting centuries long trade routes. It shook things up, expectedly.
