Unpopular ideas is being an FMS which is your idea because if you are against recognition or don't think it's important that means you accept being a part of a failed state.
Saying that civil war is on the cards if Somaliland is recognized is also fear politics. If a war is on the cards then it has to be fought and it's unavoidable.

You did make some good points but some things you say just don't add up to me.

You guys have to be clear about your ideas. What is Somaliland and where are it's borders and what is it's national interest? If you can answer those questions for us then let us know otherwise you are dancing around the basics.

Here are a list of a reasons as to why Somaliland has not & will not gain recognition:

1. SNM represented only one community in northern Somalia, unlike the pan-ethnic SPLA and EPLF.
2. The absence of unanimous agreement on secession among the three main communities of northern Somalia. In Eritrea, 99.8% of Muslims and Christians voted in favor of secession. In South Sudan, 97.8% of Dinka and Nuer voted in favor of secession. These communities disagreed on a lot but they were fully united behind secession.
3. Isaaq are not an overwhelming majority, like in Kosovo where Albanians are 92% of the population. Isaaq are ~55% of the population and their share is declining due to lower relative fertility vis a vis Harti. 55% of the population is not large enough to police the other communities of northern Somalia, even if recognition were granted.
4. The only time all democratically elected representatives of all of the clans of former British Somaliland agreed on anything was June 27 1960, when they voted to join Italian Somaliland “forever”. No one elected the men who declared secession in Burco in 1991, and the 2001 referendum had no legal basis.
5. Somalia’s central government has adopted federalism for its future structure. This means that there is now ample political space for Somaliland to rejoin and maintain the institutions it has developed over the past 30 years.

I can go on and on with maybe another 10 reasons, but you catch my drift. Recognition? It is not going to happen.
