Walaal, they have so many Arabic loanwords , it's intertwined with their Somali vocabulary so I highly doubt it's authenticity
General SomaliLahjadda WaqooyiForeign Loanwords

QaadoMalqacadالملعقة

DooroDigaagدجاج

GaduudCasaanderives from أسمر
JeerWaqtiالوقت

And no neither is the Somali spoken in Mudug or Xamar 100% Somali but let's not get political right now
You cant call waqooyi not authentic when the somali in the south got alot of italian words

Bra in italian is reggiseno-reggipetto and Somali rajastiin -Rajabeto

Glasses in italian is occhiali and Somali okayaalo

Ice cream in italian is gelato and in somali its jalaato

Fork in italian is forchetta and in Somali fargetto

Yellow in italian is giallo and in somali jaalo

Bag in italian Borsa and in somali boorso

Btw theres no single waqooyi accent and dialect and it doesn’t just belong to “Isaaq”. The main parts of Somali gableed and Djibouti also speak with the so called waqooyi accent but with slight differences.
Bosaaso and ceerigaabos are similar despite bosaso not being considered as waqooyi. Even Gabliey which is 60km from Hargeisa has more in common with Djibouti and Borama

@Hodan from HR It’s wrong to portray waqooyi dialect as using more Arabic loan words and southern dialect more original it’s actually more complex than that. There’s actually instances where there’s Arabic loan words in southern Somali that aren’t used in north. For example miiyi is more commonly used in the north whereas baadiye in the south with baadiye obviously being a loan word from the Arabic badawi or Bedouin in English. There’s more instances of Arabic loan words in south but not used north but can’t remember at the moment

@Rastavelli-67 You’re reaching with casaan and bisad. Also jeer is used in the north too. “ Had iyo jeer ” “ Imisa jeer”
this map shows what dialect thats commonly spoken in certain regions

Formaggio in italian is cheese, in somali it is farmaajo.

Just like there are many variations between the waqooyi the same applies to the konfuur. In terms of more originality its hard to say truthfully because both dialects use foreign loanwords. But interms of intonation I noticed that reer waqooyi pronounce J as Ch. Is that common across the board? :hmm:
J=CH that's how you pronounce it in Somali

One dialect has Italian loan words and the other Arabic. None of which are pure Somali let’s just leave it at that.

Exactly.
That is what I was trying to say.
The somali language as a whole has lots of loan words, depending on the region and history of those people. So it doesn't matter which part of Somalia you are from tbh.

People intermarry, trade with their neighbors blah blah and languages evolve.

How about the Somali diaspora dialect? Mixing English and Somali words into one like portmanteau?

Booking-ka
TV-ga
Hoover-ka (why wasn't named Vacuum-ka?)
Waan walk garayey

Somali diaspora dialect is like 1/3 non Somali.

The older generation are speaking like this while their kids are just speaking English.

:damn:

The two most respected dialects are waqooyi and galbeed since they're both famed for Somali poetry and music but honestly, both dialects are very close the only slight difference is the accent.
waqooyi mudug and galbeed are the standard af somali. but mudug dialect sounds more aggressive especially on women.

gashaa not gasha. only writing gasha is a sign you are posting something else.

"koi" stop your drivel. the grammar is not standard somali.

the word koi is af maay. it means kaalay. af somali does not have the oi diphthong. only oy diphthong.

af somali does not have two adjacent consonants with no vowel. either its a typo or not classical somali.

agreed. I think they were once one dialect before all the migration and expansions.
