If we cannot get food to our people because we don’t have ports, we will become vulnerable to hunger & famine, no one will stop us, we will be forced to eat whatever we can find by any means, it is human nature.

Why not work closely with the somaliland government to increase capacity at the Berbera port? Or a new Zaylac- dire dawa corridor?
War might even be the more expensive option here.

But in all honesty, he frequently talk and brag about the ‘glory’ of former Ethiopian empires and their history. And I’ve listened to quite a few speeches. My take is that he wants to ‘correct’ what he perceives to be ‘historical errors’ and return Ethiopia back to a regional/global power. One aspect of it is becoming self-sufficient in every way.

Not having a port of their own, for trade and importantly navy, is something he can’t move past and accept the reality of Ethiopia being permanently landlocked. Hence, his recurring tantrums of entitlement

He believes that all Ethiopian history belongs to every Ethiopian, irrespective of their ethnicity.

It should also be noted that he ‘identify’ more with Amharas than most other Oromos. He has an Amhara wife and support Amharization of the country etc.
