Yes, I am. Apart from my own family and my dad's friends I don't know any either lol. I'm not sure I count as a speaker..unfortunately my dad spoke Af Maxa Tiri to us.

I think that is because you are Digil from Lower Shabelle, the Digil are more assimilated with the Af Maxa Tiri communities
compared to the isolated communities of af may may (Baydhabo, Buur Hakaba etc).

They ruled from Xamar to Kismaayo after the Ajuuran collapsed. Even during the Ajuuran they were very powerful. Mashallah, I have a lot of respect for the Digil community. They're very religious people who completely destroyed Menelik's army that tried to enter Luuq, only 200 Habeshas made it out alive.

True. Most live in USA or Australia. But you will find other qabiils who speak Af Maay too because they live among them. I have come across quite a few Mareexaans ,Hawaadles, iyo those from Jubbaland who speak Af Maay.
My dad speaks Af Maay. He lived in Baydhabo for a period of time and learned. I think as part of a school program. So does my awowe and ayeyo after being neighbors with some speakers.

My dad speaks Af Maay, I can understand it but my speech is below average.

It's most likely that Af Maxa Tiri is an off-shoot of Af Maay.

One thing I dislike about Somalis is the arrogance they display, even in matters they have little knowledge of.

I'm not surprised it's the same people who believe their dialect to be the correct/pure Somali are the same ones displaying their ignorance.
yeah reer geeljire can be retarded. there arent many maay speakers in usa but there was one girl at my school and here is the questions she used to get
omg you are so exotic..
how do you say these bad words...
your accent is so sexy...

:snoop:

It's interesting that you guys have retained some of the old cushitic words like 'af'. I'm not surprised that 'may' would mean water similar to 'maa' in Arabic, since both languages are Semitic.
Yeah there are quite a lot of old Cushitic words here and there. I thought af or something like that was in Arabic too, unless it's something similar?
There's words like dorho from Cushitic too lol

That's right. we speak an intelligible form of Af Maay. The Jiddu speak hardcore Af Maay. Dabarre speak their own variation of Af Maay along with the Bantu. It's really no different to Af Maxa Tiri and how each region has their own variation.

Mostly isolated groups think af Maay isn't Somali and there's is pure. I used to translate at hospitals and could understand af Maay speakers fine as well as other dialects. I used to be babysat by Somali women who spoke a variety of different accents. I found it very fascinating.

It could be because the Jiddu were the first Somalis to establish themselves in the South:
