In the IGAD meeting, the US is urging dialogue because Somalia is dependent on Ethiopia for its security. They specifically mentioned that Somalia shouldn't remove Ethiopian troops and Ethiopia shouldn't withdraw them. Their only concern is stopping the insurgents becoming more powerful in the region which means any kind of armed conflict is off the table for HSM.

The FGS could have smuggled arms and military personnel into the coastal areas of Awdal. Keep in mind that the coast of Awdal is where 250 armed ONLF militants attempted to pass through with the help of the locals after training in Eritrea.

There's nothing preventing the FGS from coordinating with Eritrea to replicate that scenario with the SNA. If a militia did it, what's stopping the FGS? There's just a lack of physical action.

Bear in mind, there's no "Somaliland" army anymore. SSC karbaashed them into smithereens. The FGS also showing more support and arming SSC could have deterred those remnants from Goojacade that were stationed in Toghdeer from entering Awdal in the first place.

Like I said, Somalia is taking over from ATMIS at the end of the year not now. They need to replace 22K troops and all the armor (heavy weapons- tanks, artillery, apcs) they will be losing when ATMIS withdraws. Most of that training and arming will happen this year. It's a sink or swim moment for Somalia.

Sure then the troops engaging al shabaab should stay there, however those that want to fight should be allowed to go to awdal. If HSM does an emergency draft I promise you there would be tens of thousands of Somalis willing to fight off Ethiopia. The only challenging part would be establishing supply lines. The president seems more focused on asking others for help instead of readying the nation for what’s to come.
