He thought he could easily prey on Somalia given the precarious state of the country, only for international community to side with us kkk. Not even their allied BRICS countries have voiced much support for them
I personally think that they're still aiming at the red sea, but that the gulf of Aden was the best they could do at the moment without using military force. And as they establish themselves here, in their mind (if they manage to pull this MoU through), they'll advance their positions with regards to Eritrea and over time continue with their ambitions over there as well.

They completely underestimated the backlash across Somalia, and the International Community noticed that too, which is why they quickly condemned it. It’s very disturbing to think that if they had done this in the 1990s Black hole when the world washed their hands off us, they could have gotten away with this. Today, the superpowers (US, China, EU) have no appetite for the delusions of Abiy, more importantly both Egypt and Turkey have reached multitrillion dollar economies status with formidable militaries on par with the Old Soviet Union and both support Somalia openly.
The deal is dead, their only option is direct warfare. HSM has been pushed into a corner, he doesn’t want to be the president that lost half of Somalia, nor the president that lost a giant chunk of land to Ethiopia. I was wrong about him, because even a clan leader has to protect the name of the clan. And we know from his meetings with leaders of his clan about national affairs that he takes their opinion highly, and therefore he is also pressured to protect their reputation and everything they stand for. They would tolerate HSM being corrupt, or negligent, or even weak to other FMS, but losing the entire North or the coast would mean shame that would hunt him beyond his presidency. Somalis are ruthless and would cover his clan in that same shame.
It has therefore become more attractive to HSM to leave office with the entire Horn up in flames, then take this lying down, hence why things are moving so much faster today when only three months ago he was still dragging his feet.
I can’t wait to hear HSM Churchill/Dwight D Eisenhower style “We shall not surrender”/ “You shall bring about the destruction of the Ethiopian (German) war machine speech.
