I wish for more women to speak out and come out of the closet, none of these men understand the emotional and physical torment faced when ones own feminine trait is lost. No more silent voices !! Let our barbaric practices come back to life. Men shouldn't even comment on this page they don't know what it is like to feel inadequate when every other female is different to you. Every hospital visit is met with a puzzled face doctor gollow by a therapy sessions. I hope we eradicate this disease FGM must go !! No need for it in the 21st century. What solution do you see in videos like this? Everyone will watch and say oh how sad and move on. Solutions lie in going back home and telling those eedos to stop and educating. Maybe influencing laws against it and etc.. But showing the world your vagina as you undergo a surgery or making youtube videos like this one will not change anything. non somali people are not going to care nor are they going to change anything

i've worked in women's shelters for a couple of years now and I visit Somali aunties and ayeeyos houses and talk about the issue there.

I'm not lying when I say that the hidden nature of fgm is the biggest obstacle to defeating it. The stigma and shame surrounding the whole topic prevents any meaningful dialogue and education. How do you expect ppl to learn shit when they won't even admit to it?

We've had posts before where older Somali women was discussing fgm and what had happened to them and the comments were predictable a disaster! I felt embarrassed for every single poster, fucking shameful. As long as attitudes like that are prevelant then i welcome a hundred more videos like these.

Kindly exist stage left with ur faux concern and patronising attitude when you've never as much as lifted a finger towards the cause

And why are you rambling? All I said was that these videos aren't targeting the right audience which is somali parents/households. How many somali moms and dads do you think watch youtube videos talking about fgm?

It is useless talking about this problem if it is not being talked about with the people that it concerns. How is that so hard to understand? If you want to tackle the stigma that's associated with coming up with this topic, then find ways to discuss with SOMALI people.
