I found an Afar woman on 23andMe, thinking it was a mixed person, to find out she was a full Afar from Ethiopia and Eritrea. Her score got me wondering, maybe Afars are from the same autosomal pool. We might jump to the conclusion and say, she is half Somali; I don't think that is right. My guess is, 23andMe can't discern Afars well from Somalis and because we share ancient coastal history -- this might be similar but not Somali-derived, only a common origin while the rest of Ethiopian/Eritrean-like stuff might be the differentiation. In totality, the whole component should be the Afar heritage. You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
Interestingly, it might be that a "pure" Afar profile is equidistant between the Somali Basal pool and Ethiopian/Eritrean-Basal pool but these might not be gene flows but divergent genetic expressions. I'm opting for an interesting explanation.
