You can be in the bush and not see another person for days. I noticed this in K5 and neighbouring area. Darod lands are especially empty.
Darod live in ~45% of Somalia’s land area. If Darod inhabited areas were as densely populated as the average across all of Somalia, Darod would be 45% of the population. That is of course not the case.

Somalia as a whole is not a dense country by any means but it really is a wasteland between the Shabelle and western SL. Boosaaso area is a slight exception but there’s pretty much nothing going on in that region besides that.
Not a bad thing. Somalia is hard for any foreign army to control in its entirety. It helped defeat the Oromo and Ethiopian invasions of the past when towns were abandoned and the interior was the place of retreat/mobilisation. The British and Italian struggled with the interior.

On the flip side it makes the job of any Somali government harder. Much more difficult to control a population with a high proportion of pastoralists than an agrarian one; nomadic-based cultures don’t necessarily lend themselves towards stable styles of governance as easily. We are the way we are becuase of necessity. If there were non-seasonal rivers north of the Shabelle those areas would be more dense and we’d likely be much more agrarian.

It makes it harder but don’t forget Somali pastoralists are often very loyal to their governments and administrations so long as there is a valid social contract and justice.

A bigger impediment is how Ethiopia/Kenya host Somali “reconciliation” conferences and they use different admins in Somalia as tools or “buffer states” to stop the rise of Somali nationalism.

How is it possible:
a) Galgaduud more populous than Hiran?
b) Togfheer twice the population of Sool?
i) Togdheer's population equal to Sool & Sanaag?
ii) Outside of Burco, are there any sizeable towns other than Buhodle? how about sizeable villages?
c) Xamar twice the size of W Galbeed? Highly unlikely.
d) Middle Juba the lowest populated after Sanaag?

Numbers do not quite compute. defy logic, and reality on the ground. Conjecture, and rough estimations?

Galguduud is fertile. Somalis from SL and PL moved to Jacar a town in Ceelbuur district during the Dabadheer drought in the 70s while other drought stricken communities were sent to Koonfur Galbeed and Jubaland

Everything is conjecture and estimation in Somalia, but on point C, it’s more likely they underestimated the population of Waqooyi Galbeed than overestimated Xamar.

Take any data on Middle Juba with a grain of salt. Its been AS central for over 10 years

Yeah shabaab-controlled areas tend to see depopulation for urban areas, probably at a higher rate than non-shabaab controlled areas. Of course this is based on central Somalia. Reality might be different for the south.

How big is Jacar? Bigger than Guriceel?
Was not Ceelbuur, at one time, the business hub for the Hobyo Sultanate?

I thought the opposite was true?

somalia population according to this 16.7 million. i believe even that is over estimation. every org is incentivized to exxagerate whether its somali govt trying to get more aid and support. Or NGO and westerners who want to overstate problems and number of people they helped
