Calling for the balkanization of Somalia is equivalent to opting for Somali genocide. Those tiny states will fall under either the sphere of influence of Ethiopia or Kenya. Choose your master.

Crooked elites would still be stealing aid money in every corner of this new Somali federation sxb.

Yes, except now it isn't SL vs SFG. If Somaliland for instance got their independence, they're solely responsible for representing the will of their people, both domestically and internationally. They can't do their job? Then it's on their people to install a better government. That makes them much more accountable imo. Instead of being caught half-way between the regional power and the 'real' government all the way in Xamar that does not represent you, nor have any real effect on you.

You want to Balkanize an already tiny area/group into even tinier worthless countries. While the rest of the world thinks about expansion. You not only split and divide the people (which most of you don't care about). You split up the resources, land, manpower, and any clout we could ever hope to salvage in this world. How can you compare somalia as it is today to large swathes of the world like Europe or the Arab world? It's like the United States splitting up each state becoming a country, they would become irrelevant overnight and were not nearly as large as the states. Everything you mentioned can be and should be worked out as a country, if you believe Somalis can't as a country what makes you think they can as different clan based countries? That would only make matters worse. It makes 0 sense, the world is building empires and controlling other countries and you people want to become medieval city states. All over ego and clan, so backwards.

Hence the need for an economic and political alliance... please tell me how I'm dividing the people? It's not like there is a functional centralised government right now. Each corner of the country is pulling in a different direction as is. The united states doesn't need to split up because they're already efficiently co-operating and seemingly have aligned interests on a low level. Even if they did split up and made compromises to some extent, they would still have significant clout. Not as much as before, but it's just not true they'd be irrelevant. You can come from the qabil and pride-based angle, but contrary to your belief, I'm interested in neither of these. If each region focused on their own and made use of their own resources and co-operated whenever it's of mutual benefit, what on earth is wrong with that?

@black why do you feel like Puntland should secede from Somalia?

I believe it would be better off because of better representation.

How does this even make sense to you? "Diverse group can get along so why can't we" but "we should divide into clan states in order to do this". If we as similar as we are can't get along in a country in your mind, why would it work as seperate countries? How do you rationalize this in your own mind if it isn't about hate and arrogance?

You need to tone it down a notch with the accusations. Are Somalis TONIGHT co-operating? It's blatant each region is invested in their own interests. Allow them pursue it and work together an broader scale. Working together apart.

All countries you could mention also had their dark periods, war, and division, they got to where they are because they worked to better it they didn't Balkanize.

Somali regions are too small and do not generate enough economic output to justify their existence. Even federalism is a bad idea in a country with a population as poor and small as Somalia's. Balkanization would mean slower development than even federalism. Every new state will try to raise revenue from "cross border" trade, and will duplicate every government function. The inefficiencies would be staggering.

Somalia needs a constitution that safeguards the rights of individuals and defines what kind of central government we are to have. All of Somalia's problems can be solved by honest negotiations. Breaking up the country is not a serious solution.

I'm actually not

Do you want a centralized/unitary government or a federal

Yes I'm in favour of a democracy.

So how do you suppose we make our undemocratic government a real democratic one?

This what made Somalia. Gobol management is what landlocked Ethiopia and blessed us with the longest beaches of Africa.

I don't think you understand what every gobol has. It's a complete cluster f*ck of boundless opportunities.

We have a human capital problem. You can do anything when 60% of your population do book keeping with a sick in the sand.

:jcoleno: They honestly believe I'm a lander. Maybe I'm just an open-minded Somali Bantu or cadcad

If your Bantu or Cadcad I'm sorry for having you wait in the sidelines for this movie to get going. Playing Somalia is more difficult than watching Somalia.

With this analogy:

We are still fighting over who will press play on the movie. Just sit tight our new plan is to hold a stick together and push the play button together.
:damn:
