According to Islam atheism is worse, being gay is a sin just like commiting adultry, a person can repent it doesn't necessarily take them out the fold of Islam whereas a kufr is another level.

Personally, I could be friends with an atheist, but I could not be friends with a homosexual. So, on a personal level for me it's homosexuality.
