We broke can barely pay troops we have. If we had funds would be easy to have big army as most of youth and men unemployed 200 dollars a month they gonna jump at that. Only chance is volunteer army which ain’t happening. No one will die for another’s land right now. We busy fighting each other to worry about somaliland leasing ocean.
No matter who is president nothing they can do other than apply international pressure. Somalia not beating Ethiopia in war HSM hands are tied. Wasn’t the intention for the SNA to be 18k troops and for the collective FMS forces to be 18k? Realistically SNA should be at least double but even if we had the funds to pay all those soldiers we wouldn’t be able to. Not enough accountability structures in place to prevent the funds from being pilfered as they are now.
Per NDP 9. The goal is Somali national army to be 18,000 troops. And then each FMS to have 3,000 specialized troops each which is another 18k. Then the goal is to have 32k state and federal police officers who will patrol, solve crime, address disputes and deal with citizens . Military will deal with foreign adversaries and ensuring borders protected

The funds unaccounted for number enough to pay the salaries of our youth, each flight taken from the PM & pres is expensive with a majority surpassing the 100’000$ mark. Stolen money which raised suspicion from the world bank itself along with what they don’t know about, and without doubt, that money could have been used elsewhere. It still may not be enough, but conscription and reducing salary to 100 to allow a higher amount of soldiers would provide a viable means of defence.
Undervaluing the threat to our sovereignty is not an accurate measurement of the situation. Another country doing this anywhere else would be treated appropriately, so I’d appreciate if we all reduced the disengenuos tactics of providing appeasement to the situation.

Somalilnd and Taiwan not comparable Taiwan one of the richest countries in the world. Somaliland poor and can’t exist without western aid. One of the main reason they want independence is direct access to aid. This is what them and fgs mainly clash about
With regards to security this was budget for 2023. This also includes many administrative functions of these branches doesn’t leave much for fighting force
Why I’m not concerned is I don’t believe Ethiopia has power to form new country. HSM can sign document tomorrow with ONLF and say its own country. Same thing with other rebel movements like FANO but it won’t be mean anything

Even if you doubled SNA troops to 36k, salary expenditures annually would be 86 million. Accounting for salary differences among ranks we can round up to 100 million. Sad state of affairs that we cannot raise even this much for salaries, let alone the other expenditures associated with a standing army.
