First oil drilling in Somalia will start this year

You couldn't refute anything I said so you resort to ad hominem attacks. Sad!

:russ:

I could easily demolish your childish lies, but I don't feel the need to lower myself to that level.

Anyone else who is truly interested, can head on over to the development section to see the Puntland-UAE relationship in full glory.

What’s funny is you all think the money from oil will be sent to the Somali Public in dividends or something.

This money will not go past the Petroleum Ministry where a big Mooryan currently leads who gets rich of oil contracts, Hassan Sheekh office and the FMS presidents pockets.

What’s there to celebrate about??
They'll have to pay every clan leaders his share in order for them not to cause issues on the oil site or the workers on that site.

On a serious note though. I will not deny that our corrupt officials will be snatching money but even the most corrupt person has to be logical. In order to placate the masses some of the funds must be allocated to them. I'm probably thinking too logically for a African leader however.

HSM is the man that went to Saudi Arabia, and signed a deal to send Somali girls as maids.
That is who we are dealing with.

😭😭

Why did you have to remind me of that? Did the girls actually get sent, I heard that deal fell through or whatever. If drilling starts at the last months of 2024 then we won't see the fruits of that for a while.

I suppose I'm just being optimistic about this whole thing. Regardless, oil won't wash away all our problems.

Sadly, there are gabdho Soomaliyeed, ethnic or not, who are shaqaale in Saudi Arabia. When in the past, it was forbidden! Ninkaan damiir ha ka sugin, oo qalbigaaga ilaasho.

The whole world has corruption but ours has no limits, add to that a violent populace when pushed and you get civil war and everything that entails.

Oil should be nationalized. You're right that every country is corrupt however tge issue is minimizing the impact of corrupt on how services are provided. Somalia needs to learn accountability before it wants to properly develop. There needs to mountains of regulations that get corruption bogged down in legalizism. Also proper anti corruption task force need to be established.

But who am I kidding? This is assuming that the political class are willing to develop the nation, which we all know they're not.

I think there is a difference between us and other countries. Yes, our corruption is great and clear, but we are different. We have nervous people. If there are problems and pressures, they can easily start another civil war, and let's not forget the Somalis in the diaspora who can manage this through social media sites like TikTok and Facebook, and they will not be held accountable either. There are also state presidents who can create problems if they do not like the matter, so they will be held accountable a little and they know that. No matter how corrupt they are, they will give a percentage to the citizens. Our situation is good compared to other African countries.

It took UAE 25 years before they became who they are today. Add 25 years to your current age. Most of us will be 50~ by the tilme we see Somalia developed. You will loose the thrill of driving Bugatti and Lamborghini at that age. Fortunately for me I’m an athlete so age doesn’t concern me. Our childeren will be lucky though.

You'll be lucky if your clan still owns the land you live on today. I foresee South-Central Somalis being scurried into Jiingado whilst HSM and his cronies take all the money and hide behind thousands of foreign troops.

Take a good look at Djibouti and imagine worse.

He is not allowed. He doesn’t have the power to do so. You keep forgetting we are a clan based society. We take orders from our clan elders. Once corruption is spotted there will be major wars happening. By the time the oil will be extracted it will be 2026 which is election time. Who knows, a MJ could be the president then.

It's clear we're in this in-between stage where the state is still figuring out what it's identity is. The lack of regulation and a political system closer to medieval feudalism than proper representation makes accountability hard. The political class is getting old and I worry for the next generation since the ones we have are not good models to follow. The fear of the civil war looms and prevents all out anarchy once again but this a small victory.

There are definitely other nations that I consider far worse off than Somalia. Places like Libya, that remind me of the anarchy after the fall of barre or other places like Sudan which is being pillaged. However Somalia needs to fix up, we cannot continue on this 30 year turmoil.

I fear that I'll be a old man and I'll still be hearing about Somalia struggling against the same things. We have the advantage of being a nation of one people with one faith yet we struggle to even empathize with our own people.

This is the reality I've come to accept and this in my mind is the good ending. I'll much rather live through this shit if my grandchildren are guaranteed some peace and the chance to grow up back home. But nothing in this life is guaranteed, so I pray.
