I am waiting for her to admitt to the affair. I think her ex must be happy to be free from constant bad press and insults. Her kids will also have a chance to live an anonymous life because of the split of their parents. Living under constant bad press is negative.

I think this(the family split) works well for all parties. As far as her politics go, she is doing what liberal and democratic voters expect their reps to do. Represent the voiceless and raise important issues relevant to the environment, race, gender equity, pay, refugees and american openness. I am holding onto my judgement untill there is clear proof or she personally admitts she had an affair whilst married. Even then, I would see it as a human failure not unique to Ilhan. Anyone can fall short of their religious obligations.

As I've mentioned previously in this and in other threads, the rumours may very well be false and a smear campaign; furthermore, in our deen, we must assume a lady's innocence otherwise the accuser is liable to be punished for smearing a woman's reputation. From a secular lens however, the issue here is that Ms. Omar made bold statements in the past that have now come back to bite her and paint her as a hypocrite. She was a political newbie, a guppy in a tank of sharks in Washington, and she should have gotten a lay of the land first in order to further her agenda; instead, she chose to play martyr for Palestinians, and has now accomplished nothing except to make mindless fascists hate Somalis and other Muslims and African immigrants even more.
