Major issue, there are some people who are happy about this massive mess up. Completely motivated by qabyaalad, also the same reason why im against those Celebrating about all the deaths in raas kamboni, theres this one girl (probably a guy) on twitter whos just beating the war drum about whats going on in raas kambon its absolutely ridiculous and wrong.

Right now I'm banking on 2 things to help turn the situation around

1) it seems like abiy wants assab as well for some reason. The fact he has is state media for the first time calling isais a dictator. Makes me think he now wants to shed all pretenses. It's possible one of them might do a preemptive attack or abiy tries at the very least to get rid of the Eritrean soliders in ethiopia. ( kind of ironic that just like we struggle with taking ethiopiam solideers out he's struggling to kick our Eritrean soliders )

2) in a twiiter space yesterday somebody was saying that we could stall it if we said that these international agreements have to go through parliament for it to be approved

No your first point is a bit too naive, even if its possible for him to get Assab ( he will probably make a move after Isaias dies) He will not simply give up his ideas for somalis.

The notion of a military base now seems completely unfeasible to be formally allowed by the FGS.

People should clearly outline what they are against, moving from taking offense to the MoU portion of a military base, which is no longer a serious option given the Turkey lease deal, to asserting that any form of port agreement is inherently negative because Ethiopia should not have access to the sea under any circumstances.

A lot of this argument comes across as facetious. The federal government is weak, and any attempt to centralize or strengthen it is labeled as tyranny. However, it is then wrong criticize the weakened and divided image of Somalia on the international stage. That's a natural result from a state that's not even allowed to levy taxes outside of Mogadishu.

The important boundaries are leasing land and the entirety of the border, allowing the stationing of an Ethiopian navy, or creating a military base. These plans have been thoroughly dismissed. A port lease agreement similar to what the UAE and Turkey already have in Somalia is less desirable but could be acceptable if the negotiation is handled carefully. Earlier this year, when Puntland officials met with Ethiopian representatives after cutting ties with the FGS,the talked about the future Garacad port, people on this forum said, "NO ONE IN MOGADISHU TELLS US WHO WE CAN AND CANNOT DO BUSINESS WITH."

Besides, It is inconsistent to blame HSM for the influx of Ethiopian troops into Somalia when regional leaders like Laftagareen and Madobe engage with Ethiopia following disputes with the FGS.

What can HSM realistically do when two regional leaders have been influenced? Removing them would escalate the situation. We've already seen that. Any such conflict quickly becomes tribal, and accusations begin to fly. The only real solution is for the FGS and Somalia as a whole to become stronger and more capable slowly, and that requires time, a lot of time, that needs to be bought by postponing any changes to the status quo.

People believe that all Somalia needs is the perfect leader or dictator. However, the problem is that all the strongmen of today, Putin, Xi, Erdoğan, and MBS, came into power in countries that already had institutions. They did not have to create tax bases or build an army from scratch. They did not face regional presidents resisting their authority or large swaths of their territory occupied by insurgents like Al-Shabaab. Farmaajo’s presidency was an experiment in strongman leadership, but it partly failed because he came into power in a country lacking the institutional framework necessary to reshape society in his image.

He is the complete opposite of HSM. Kheyre is pro unity! Here he is saying FGS is in the wrong and should not exclude Somaliland and Puntland when it comes to making big decisions like changing the dastuur. You see Ajuuraan and Adal existed through peacefull negotiations and inclusion of all clans. Xoog does not work in Somalia!

Hsm has done God knows how many corrupt acts. Never once have I heard Kheyre call him out. It's good that he did it this time but it's undeniable he was a yes man. That's who hsm appoints.

@TheLand and equally anyone who thinks it’s a naval base hasn’t done their due diligence and only have surface level knowledge of what’s going on. Ethiopia will have their own commercial vessels docking at the port, Somalia is to treat them the same as any other foreign vessel coming to Somalia, but they will not have a navy base. Once it’s revealed that somalia and Ethiopia are working within UNCLOS, it’s basically confirmed they aren’t getting a base. Unless Ethiopia starts bullying HSM again because he’s a pussy.

@Step a side @Hilmaam what made the MOU so dangerous was that Ethiopia had its owner investor ready to pour hundreds of millions into making them a new port immediately even though they’re broke. France supported it and UAE was funding.
