Ethiopia to secure a port through negotiation or force

Ethiopia doesn’t understand Somalia if they think this is achievable. It doesn’t matter how weak the FGS is (which is gaining in strength and will flex it’s muscles against Ethiopia in the long run), the clan politics in this country won’t allow Ethiopia to have a free port as any clan that builds a port/has access to it will want all the taxes to come from it. And Ethiopia has failed miserably when up against clan dynamics in the past.

Forget the port itself, you have road taxes everywhere which is very lucrative to local clans. Imagine Ethiopia not only building a port in any of the states, then having to escort every single truck driver to Ethiopia with a division of military forces because that’s what it would take.
If Ethopia returns all Somali territories inculding Dirirdhaba and Harar then we might consider allowing Ethopia to lease Zaylac port.

Who's that at around 3:45?
Yes, that is him, but he doesn't say he is from Jigjiga. He was educated there, but he hails from North of Jigjiga which is Wajaale, Awbare, Dambal, and Harawo. He represents those constituencies where he was elected from.

I do think that the statement from Abiy was taken out of context, now that I think about it. Ethiopia have already access to several ports. After Eritrea seceded, they had to turn to Djibouti and since then invested billions in the Djibouti-Dir Dhaba-Addis railway.

Recently, they've been investments in infrastructure Jigjiga-Berbera to accommodate Berbera port and a new route of road between Jigjiga-Dir Dhaba through Sitti have been built. They're also forging closer ties with Eritrea to diversify through Assab- and Massawa ports. Garaacad will soon be ready and serve DDS and Oromia. Once southern Somalia becomes stable, the ports in Xamar, Kismaayo (& Barawe) will be used more.

Abiy most likely referred to a wish of establish a navy. I remember him saying that has has aspirations of reviving the defunct navy (reduced to lake Tana in Amhara region today, lol) as it serves more interests than having a port to their name.

Ethiopia is eyeing zila port they may try to convince samaroon to join them and leave isaaqland.
If I was Abiye, I would destabilize Somaliland but supporting SSC militarily and arming Garxajis. Once a full blown civil war breaks out in Somaliland, I would woo the peace loving professors in Awdal to join the DDS "temporarily" while the fires ranging on in Isaaq and Dhulos land burns down (of course I would ensure that fire never dies down). Between full blown civil war, death, and the destruction of their civites vs peace in Somali region with Boorame becoming a maamul-magaalo with modern highways, roads, and access to Ethiopia's cheap electrification, I know what Samaroon would choose, especially if it means opening up with their cities in DDS.

But that's just what i would do if I was Abiye

Damn, the way you just said this it makes you kind of believe that Abiy is behind the scenes with the current war that’s ongoing between Somaliland and SSC.

That used to be the case but is no longer the case and hasnt been for years now. Federalism has created con-federlism.

If Ethophia for example attacked SL to get the port most somalis in las anod/awdal would be happy ( which is wrong but look what SL is doing in that area, same with PL being attacked and Mogadishu being happy and not helping , same for gedo and kismayo being happy ect ect) we are the most split ever.

Mate Somaliland is fuckin weak 😂 walhy Somaliland is already a servant to Ethiopia.

:mjlol:

i watched this Al-Jazeera analysis on Ethiopia’s statement.

We are so blessed to have a coast, we will always have leverage over Ethiopia. Somalia needs to develop their coastal towns to ensure each FMS has a functioning port. Just like how Djibouti taxes Ethiopian goods, the SFG could do the same and each FMS could get a share of it. Ethiopia economy is growing and we could profit of it using our ports. Ethiopia doesn’t want that anymore they want a port which they keep on their own. So far Eriteria, Djibouti are not allowing that to happen and want to keep the status quo which angers Abiy.

Ethiopia has gotten so desperate that they are offering 30% Stake in their national carrier Ethiopia airlines to Eriteria in exchange for Assab Port to be managed by Ethiopia :dead:

MSB was very smart in supporting Eriteria against Ethiopia in their fight for independence he had a long vision of making Ethiopia landlocked in the end it worked. 100 million with no coast kkkk.
