It depends on where you live and that environment. All the Somalis i live around are mostly middle class and hard working.

Most of the youth go to uni, go to the gym lifting weights and work part time or are at the Masjid. The only time you will ever see gangs , drugs or ciyaal suqnimo is if you look for it, because it does not seek you.

I got my first part time job with the help of a fellow Somali friend. I got Straight A's due to an after school study program run by a Somali Adheer and i've recieved lots of help from other Somalis at my Uni. . This summer i will work a paid internship at my uncles bank abroad.

So i seriously doubt it is a Somali specific thing , more like a poverty thing.

Sure my mom and dad were strict and told me to stay away from bad influences whether they were Somali or Ajanabis and monitored every aspect of my life. But i never had to isolate myself from other Somalis totally , only specific individuals.

Most of the losers on my end are the ones who copy Ajanabi trash lifestyle.

I could've told you this. My parents figured this out early. They categorically disallowed certain groups, including Somalis, except those vetted by them. But years later, @Adolf-Hitler, the original Somali, calls me a shegato and thinks some White fellow named Grant is "more Somali than you", so who knows.

Somalis, and immigrants in general, that live in shady areas are suprised to find that they become part of that landscape.
